Brief Route Description:
Arrive on your International flight to Santiago. A connecting flight to Puerto Montt departs from the same airport. Spend the night in Puerto Montt. The next morning at 9 a.m. take a taxi to the small plane airport La Poloma. A taxi can be sent to your hotel since not all taxi drivers know the entrance to this smaller airport. You are allowed 15 kilos of luggage. Over this they may charge excess baggage fees. Upon arrival at this small airport there is a small office near a hanger, let them know you have arrived. The flight departs at 10 a.m. It is a beautiful 35 minute flight over the ocean bay to an remote airstrip just 500 yards from the coast near the coastal town of Chaiten. It takes 3.5 hours of ground transport to arrive in Futaleufu. Hotel reserves for the village of Futaleufu can be made from this web page. On the return do not plan on same day connecting flights out of Puerto Montt before 2 pm. We can be reasonably assured that the flight from Chaiten will arrive in Puerto Montt around 1 pm.
