Day 1: Arrival & Introductions
Arrive at either of our fly fishing Patagonia entry points in Puerto Montt, Chile or Esquel, Argentina, the gateways to Patagonia. Connect with our representative and travel to the remote riverside town of Futaleufu, surrounded by majestic mountains. We arrive to our native wood lodge in the town of Futaleufu, which will serve as our base-camp for fly fishing Chile's Futaleufu River. You'll unwind from your trip with a hearty welcome-dinner, an open fireplace and a cozy room.
Day 2: Sunday: Kayaking & Mountain Biking
We'll have a great start with a beautiful moderate mountain bike ride alongside the pristine waters of the upper Río Espolón. Then over the river on a footbridge and up to Devil's Throat, a breathtaking and still un-run class VI cascade at the headwaters of the Espolón River. Below the falls, we'll enjoy lunch and then trade our mountain bikes for sit-on-top kayaks and paddling gear. In double or single crafts, we will tour the Espolón and enjoy its transparent waters, ideal swimming areas, and easy rapids - the perfect introductory run. The trip is one big loop that brings us to our take-out, only minutes from the lodge, where pisco sours and dinner await us.

Day 3: Fly Fishing the Upper Futaleufu
After breakfast we leave to fly fish the upper section of the Futaleufú river. We put in near the border with Argentina a fifteen minute drive from our village lodge. We drift down over the numerous gravel bars that characterize this stretch of the Futaleufu and fly fish the river's many eddies with weighted streamers. There will also be opportunities to fly fish with dry flies and use sight fishing techniques. We'll have a riverside lunch and continue fishing until we float back to the village. We'll take out just about the famous class V Infiernio canyon and head back to the lodge for a hearty dinner. Fly fishing in Chile doesn't get much better than this!
Day 4: Tuesday: Rafting Corazón & Casa de Piedra to El Macal
This morning we head back to the Futaleufu. This time for a day of whitewater rafting. This run begins with the adrenaline charged Corazón section. At the end of the Corazón section, however, we'll raft past our normal take out to where the river picks up energy as the canyon walls turn into vertical cliffs and huge glacier crowned peaks rise above. Here, we find Más o Menos (class IV+) and authentic class V rapid Casa de Piedra. We'll head back to lodge after an exhilarating day of Patagonia Rafting.
Day 5: Wednesday: Fly Fishing Chile's Lower Futaleufu
We drive down to the lower Futaleufu to the base of the thundering whitewater section. From there we will drift through a canyon of steep granite walls , the banks of which are covered with a dense bamboo forest. Numerous high waterfalls will accent this Yosemite like landscape. On this stretch we will fish with streamers and look for fish under the thick vegetation that populates the banks of the Lower Futaleufu. We'll have lunch streamside and continue fishing. Later in the day we will take advantage of the evening hatches with dry flies, then journey back to the Patagonia fly fishing lodge for dinner.

Day 6: Thursday: Morning Trek, Fly Fishing Seno Muerto
We trek up to the spectacular view of the Piedra de Aguila overlook and return for lunch at the lodge. Afterward we will head to Lago Seno Muerto. Only 15 minutes from town and across from Lago Loconao lies Seno Muerto a small but productive trout fishing lake. Big enough for one or two boats maximum this lake is well protected from the wind a great option for those unexpected breezy days. We'll wade and fish from boats with dry flies looking for hatches to aid us in fly selection.
Day 7: Friday: Today we go Horseback Riding
Go back in time and horseback ride through the “ Ruta de Los Arrieros' ( trails of the cowboys). They are a network of narrow roads that locals travel on foot, oxcart or horse that lead through the valleys and to isolated villages. A full day out in the 'Last Frontier' of Patagonia, Chile. Return to the lodge for a farewell dinner.
Day 8: Saturday: Departure
Wake up for an early breakfast and drive back to Chaitén, Chile and your flight to Puerto Montt, or relax for a couple of hours and take our shuttle to Esquel, Argentina. As you catch a final view of the Río Futaleufu; surrounded by hanging glaciers and snow capped mountains, take a moment to reflect upon all of the amazing sights and experiences of this past week. After all these years we are still stunned that views like these exist. For anglers looking for even more fishing we suggest adding a week of Argentina fly fishing at the El Encuentro Lodge.
